Science Café: Daniel Sýkora and Digital Animation

Nine years ago Daniel Sýkora got his first offer from Hollywood to work with Walt Disney Studios. Today, he brings in motion not just characters from animated movies like The Lion King, but also paintings of famous artists like Vincent Van Gogh. Daniel Sýkora’s original focus was on computer games, but soon he realized how important computer animation is becoming in today´s digitalized world. His software aims on bringing together computer programs and the precise hand work of artists, working with motion, sometimes even converting them in 3D. "The most important thing is to respect the author’s style, to keep characters humanlike and not as if created by a machine," explains Daniel Sýkora his passion.

Daniel Sýkora (*1980) is an associate professor at the Department of Computer Graphics and Interaction of Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Czech Technical University in Prague.

Science Café is a series of popular science presentations and talks by the best Czech scientists of today. It is organized by the Czech Centre Berlin, the Czexperts Network and the Neuron Foundation, Prague.
